Fish in a Lotus Pond, from "Animals and Plans in Colors", by
Itō Jakuchū
People who look at Fish in a Lotus Pond are confused because they do not know what point of view they are looking at. Are we looking into the pond or looking at the fishes swimming in front of us in the water? Itō Jakuchū (1716–1800) might have produced this work based on Chinese painting, but the distorted space on the screen is his original device.
